JK White Cement
White cement is a white portland cement made from raw materials with a very low iron oxide content, which is what removes the grey. It sets and gains strength exactly like ordinary portland cement, but it delivers a bright white finish and — more importantly — a clean, neutral base that accepts pigment without muddying it. It is used for tile joint filling and grouting, wall putty and skim coat manufacture, terrazzo and mosaic flooring, decorative and architectural concrete, and coloured mortars. Why white cement, and not just grey with white pigment
You cannot make grey cement white. You can lighten it, and you will spend a great deal of titanium dioxide doing it, and it will still look like grey cement that somebody tried to lighten.
The result is a binder that does two jobs at once: it is white, and it is neutral. A pigment added to grey cement fights the grey and loses — you get muddy pastels and no strong colours at all. The same pigment in white cement gives you the colour you actually chose.
Working with white cement
- Cleanliness is the whole job. White cement will pick up colour from anything it touches. Use dedicated tools and clean equipment, and wash down between batches.
- Use white or pale aggregate and clean water. Where colour consistency matters, source aggregate from a single batch for the whole job.
- Batch consistently. Measure by weight, not by shovel.
- Cure it properly. Rapid drying in direct sun causes shrinkage cracks and surface dusting.
- Protect it from moisture in storage. Cement absorbs atmospheric moisture, and a partially hydrated bag will not set properly.

What is white cement used for?

How is white cement used for tile grouting?
For simple joint filling, white cement is mixed with clean water to a smooth paste and worked into the joints, then the tile faces are cleaned before it sets. For a more durable, water-resistant and stain-resistant result, use a formulated grout containing white cement with fine filler, HPMC and RDP — which is what commercial tile grouts are.
